I hereby declare this to be the wedding dress weekend!
As you know, I’m planning my wedding. We’ve been wedding dress shopping twice, both times to David’s Bridal, once in South Dakota and once in Indiana. I tried on similar dresses both places and while I found a few I liked, I definitely did not like the price tags on anything. I say that I’m planning my wedding on an aglet budget – you’ve heard of a shoestring budget? An aglet is the piece of metal or plastic piece on the end of a shoelace to prevent it from unraveling. I don’t really even have a shoestring budget – I have an aglet. And an aglet budget just doesn’t stretch to buying a wedding dress.
Plus, I’m super picky. With every wedding dress I tried on I thought “Hmmm, I like this part, but not this one” or “I wonder if I could alter this by myself?” Finally I realized that the only way I could get exactly what I wanted was to make it myself. So that’s what I’m working on this weekend.
I’ve got my pattern: I’m basing it off a dress I’ve made twice before, so I know I like it and it fits me well.
I’ve got my materials – lace, organza, tulle, and silky lining fabric. I started last night with cutting out the pieces.
So far that’s all I’ve got done. I’ve got two layers of the bodice pieces cut out, I haven’t touched the top layer of lace yet. Honestly I’m a little nervous to cut into that because 1. it’s the top layer, and 2. I have a limited amount of it. I can’t afford to make mistakes.
I’m not planning on finishing it this weekend. I want to take my time and do it right, but I do want to make steady progress on it. So my goal is to have the bodice all put together by Sunday evening.
And all I’ve gotten done this morning is spending time with my nephew. Which is definitely time well spent in my book.
What are you up to this weekend?
